Rest In Peace Rochus Misch

What went through Rochus Misch’s mind that day? He was alone with the man that was considered to be on of the worst people to ever have lived. A person that orchestrated the murder of millions of Jews as the “Final Solution” was his close friend and his ‘Boss’.  He had been with this Boss for many years.

In 2005 when he was interviewed he described his Boss as “a very normal man”.

Misch stated, "He was a wonderful boss," Misch said. "I lived with him for five years. We were the closest people who worked with him ... we were always there. Hitler was never without us day and night."

Can you even begin to imagine what it was like to be that close to the most evil person in the world and think he was normal and wonderful?

His Boss was Hitler. And Mr. Misch was one of his close staff members that was there the day that Hitler committed suicide in that bunker below ground. The Russians were closing in on Berlin and had surrounded it – the war was over.

The statement I read this morning said, “He recalled that on April 22, two days before two Soviet armies completed their encirclement of the city, Hitler said: "That's it. The war is lost. Everybody can go."

I felt a sorrow all over again as I read these words.

One little man with a huge attitude had nearly destroyed everything… and two men stood by thinking that he was wonderful and good Boss to work for…

Rochus Misch died yesterday, September 5, 2013 at 96 years old.  He was born July 29, 1917.  He is now gone.

I can’t help but wonder what his thoughts were after he heard all that he must have heard – about what the war his Boss had launched on… and the number of people that were killed over those years….

And on Thursday September 5, 2013 he entered his “reward” in and to the afterlife.  I wonder who greeted him?

For the Misch family I think of you today. You knew love and appreciation for your father and grandfather.  You stood by him I am sure – but you too will be thinking of all that happened during his life.

May you too – Rest In Peace.
