My Good News Story of Today

Do you need a good news story that is far away from political scandal, politician’s evasive answers and crime? I do.

This posting is done specially for three great people in my life… Alida, Brenda and Marion. Brenda’s and Marion’s spouses could be included as I am in the group as well.

All three ladies have backyards that have flowers of all different sorts. And in these flower gardens visitors come from all over North America. Within a day or so they may well have thousands coming to their yards.

The butterflies are reportedly coming back to Canada. They have been south all winter doing their thing and now they are coming home to Canada.

In an article this morning in “The Star”, Michael Woods reported on the invasion that is upon us now. In London Ontario one man reported an estimated 20,000 butterflies in one day – in his backyard!

They travel at 300 to 400 kms (180 to 240 miles) per day and they are coming together Michael Woods reports.

Wow – think of the birds along the way that that are feasting on these beautiful creatures… yet there are still millions upon millions coming our way.

From what I have read the population is possibly 20 times higher than usual.

The good news is that Brenda, Marion and Alida all work to get critter like this to come to their peaceful yards.

On the comical side of things… our one neighbor has delighted in his wonderful garden that is usually full of all sorts of vegetables and edible things. The wonderful backyard that we have along with his backyard has attracted two more beautiful critters as well. Two soft and fuzzy bunnies are now living here.

Our neighbor already has lost a whole row of edible new plants that came up. The bunnies are so happy to have survived a long winter and now have buffet to good stuff readied for them.

This is good news after a winter of waiting.

Thinking on this simple and wonderful display coming to our area I can’t help but think of it another way. In many of our lives we have been in a “winter season”. Things have not been what they used to be. The gardens of our lives are rather dry and dead. We remember what was once there – but now it appears to be dead… lifeless and unattractive.

But the butterflies that are now coming by the millions are a signal from our Maker that he hasn’t forgotten who we are or where we live. He is sending HOPE… and BLESSING… and POSSIBILITY… and OPPORTUNITY…and it is coming now.

That is what a butterfly shows me… and having so many on their way here has kind of boosted my “I can’t wait for this Springtime!” feeling.

So today the good news story is to help you and me to see what is coming just around the corner… the Maker of all things is making one amazing year for just you and me. Why? My guess is so we can make the very most of this really important year that all of us will need when the next “winter season” comes our way.

My Goal is to take buckets of photos that I can look at later – when I really need them.

See I told you that it is a good news story!

Thanks for identifying this beautiful butterfly--we wondered about it's name--we're enjoying many in our garden.
