Today’s Blog Post
I hate this Chip Card technology

I came up to the counter to pay for my new trailer hitch at Canadian Tire. The small talk with the young man behind the counter was fun.

Then he asked me how I would be paying for this item. I replied, “By my Credit Card…” to which I presented my heavy weight, powerful Master Card. The smart young fellow took one look and instructed me to place the chip end into the reader… and follow the instructions. I did it easily…

I took the heavy hitch and carried it out the front door of the store. It was my prize!

I travelled through the rest of the day without any problems at all.

The next two days blew in and out, I was rolling through the actions that needed to be done.

One stop was Home Depot and more purchases for the house. The nice lady told me the amount and asked how I would be paying for the items. “Credit Card” was my reply, to which I flipped open my wallet to pull out my faithful, powerful and heavy weight Master Card…

She waited patiently for me to pass it to her… but I couldn’t find the stupid thing… no where in my wallet at all! So I chose an alternate way to pay. People were getting anxious in the line forming behind me. Sheesh!

I walked out of the store feeling totally lost. My Master Card was GONE! Who the heck could have stolen it? Where did it drop out of my wallet and when?

My hand hit the door handle of the van and the thought smacked me hard… last purchase was the trailer hitch – now two days ago!!!!

Oh my Lord… I left it in the Credit Card Reader! How could I be so stupid???!!! The customer behind me probably took it and is half way to Mexico by now! My account will be empty… as the dude standing just behind me likely got my PIN number!!!

How stupid could I be? Why didn’t I watch closer?

Slowly I made my way to the Canadian Tire store… and walked in to ask the lady at the Returns – Customer Service Counter… if she might possibly have me Credit Card. She smiled and asked my name.

“Murray Lincoln and it was a brown coloured Master Card” I said.

She opened a drawer and retrieved a stack of credit cards wrapped with a rubber band. There may have been about 20 to 30 cards in the stack.

She started through them one by one. Then she stopped and asked me if I had any I.D. to show her. Whew! She had found it!

I asked, “How long did it take to get that many cards?”

She smiled and simply said, “These are just from this month.”

It was March 2, 2011 – only two days into the month and there had been about 20 or more dummies like me… how stupid… !

But suddenly I felt the great relief flood over me… I was not the only DUMMY that shopped there!

“Canadian Tire Store – the store for Dummies… your credit cards are safe with us!”

I thanked the dear lady profusely… backed out the door and quickly drove away.

I hate this chip card! It makes old guys like me look kind of funny – in front of young bucks that watch it happen all the time. Hokey Mokey!!!!
