Slowing Down in a Hurry Up World

Have you noticed how fast time has gone by this past 12 months? I have – it was just yesterday I was looking for wrapping paper. I am sure that it was!

It was just yesterday that I was looking for the special gift that we needed for that special one. It was just yesterday… I am sure of it.

When I was only 12 it seemed like an eternity before the 25th of December arrived. When we went to bed on the 24th – we were sure that the 25th was way too long away. I was sure that I couldn’t wait for whatever was about to happen.

Now in the 6th decade of waiting… waiting is way to easy… in fact a slow down, a strong breaking method, a whoa – hold on boy – would be very good right now. Some way to slow each day would be fantastic!

When I pick up my Wood Carving, my Pyrography or my Tatting – times seems to stand absolutely still. The concentration on the small movements and the many small decisions that are made are the key to the slowing down.

My friend plays golf and finds it slows him down as well. He joked about it the other day. Now the golf courses he plays on insist that he use a cart so he can keep up to the pace that the other golfers are playing at. His whole idea of taking up golfing was to be able to slow down and enjoy the outdoors, enjoy the walk and enjoy the talking with his friends… but now they want him to speed it up… get going.

He wondered about wood carving and if you had to be in a hurry if you carved.

Nope – not at all.

I just finished removing the ice chunks piled in front of our driveway. I chopped a little… then scooped up the chunks. Just a little at a time – slowly… then in between I would lean on my shovel. There is no hurry here anymore.

This post to my Blog is normally up by about 7 AM… today it will be close to 1 PM.

You know… it is now time for a nap. Oh Boy…
