Deeply Satisfied with something very old – Tatting and Pyrography

I could have kicked myself yesterday! Sheesh! There were no more Angels left! I only bought six of these little creatures… but should have bought many more!

In preparing for our Christmas presents this year, I have done most of mine in Tatting for the family. One of the special gifts this year is my new Angel with the Tatted Wings.

This little creature began her journey somewhere in far away China and then was completed her in Canada. From Peterborough she will fly to a number of different places in Canada – before each one finds its final home.

I think I mentioned it before to my friends… my grandmother was a Tatter. She and her friends would purchase something like a handkerchief or pillow case and then Tat around the edge to prepare their gift giving.

In the more modern way I have tatted as well and then attached the Tatting to the edge of the Angel’s wings… as well as around her arms and on her gown.

The result has been stunning to say the least. The best part is that other Tatters around the world have seen her and are now perhaps going to try to create something like it as well.

This year my Christmas gift giving has traveled around the world with this internet publishing. It has shown me the power of what can be done with something so old in something so new. That is Tatting on the Internet… that is then permanent and available to all.

The other day one of my friends pointed me to a site that publishes the old tatting books from as far back as two centuries ago… right back to the early 1800s. Amazing to say the least…all available to download… and did I ever download!

I have caught a brand new passion for the very old. But I am not the only one that has that bug. It appears in our very tightly scripted lives and our constant hurry… the old crafts of long ago are now being picked up. The people that have rushed forever… are now slowing down… to real slow.

What a time to do what I do. I have had more calls and requests than ever before. Oh Boy!

The TV spot didn’t hurt either… as well as the shows and the sales that I have participated in.

I encourage you to slip away from your computer and pick up something from the past. It will give you great pleasure to say the least.

Oh by the way… I slipped out to my carving bench and away from Tatting… back to my wood last night. When I looked up it was 12:30 AM… and I was so happy. Here is a sample of my latest along with the Angels. It is called Pyrography… and is for my wife this Christmas!

I am satisfied… deeply satisfied!

Mmmm… MMH!
