Babylon 7 – Beware of BADWARE

ARRRGFHHH!

I clicked on to a YouTube Video to listen to my friend’s video. I couldn’t hear the video sound track… nothing but this stupid, repetitious music came through… loudly above everything else.

There was also another “tool bar” on my browser. Where did that come from! Who was the idiot that fowled up my machine?

I looked into the browser controls and it showed me I now had the ability to ask for translation of words that I do not know. WOW!

I don’t need that feature living in my red neck, white, honky Peterborough. We only speak RNWH in this part of the country and go to Tim Hortons. Don’t need no ding dong translator on my machine.

ARRRGFHHH! Translate that please!!!!

ARRRGFHHH! When your silly computer plays one tune loudly – over and over again… you cannot make movies, listen to your favorite music or YouTube anything.

And to get it off the machine I can download something from Security Stronghold… that will help me clean the machine of this new something called “Badware”.

I have heard of Malware, Spyware, and some other nasty stuff that idiots have developed to mess up people on the internet. But Badware was a new to me!

I tried to use these folks removal system by downloading a file… and installing it…!

ARRRGFHHH! Guess what… they want an additional so much per month or a one shot payment and they guarantee me that they will remove it completely. Guaranteed!

ARRRGFHHH! I think that the Security Strong Hold folk made the Badware and now the only ones that can take it off the machine! It looks suspiciously like this is possible – because little else is published about how to do it…. These folk claim to be experts!

ARRRGFHHH! I guess so – when you are the ones that made the “ARRRGFHHH Program” and then charge me to take it off!!!!

Anyway it is still there. I have to deal with this ARRRGFHHH program before I can do more work!

Who is responsible? Me! I made one wrong click when downloading another program… and bingo I was BADWARE-IZED!

No time to take it off yesterday… and none today.

ARRRGFHHH!

Some comments…noted
Scumware. Don't go there.
Says "Babylon dictionaries and Wikipedia via the Web. "

In fact his thing thinks it owns your browser, installs a stinking heap of immovable, noisy, superfluous carpware for you to track down & uninstall, and nags you for quantities of cash.
Given the liberties it takes, I wouldn't trust it with any payment details.

Babylon dictionaries themselves are advertised as free, but, as lexicographers, they seem to have some problems with the definition of 'free'. Sadly not uncommon nowadays.

I wonder if the oren wisman has a commercial license with Babylon Dictionaries?

And all I wanted a simple translation utility.
Pity.

AND…
This thing is horrible. It so invasive. It aggressively interrupts your surfing by popping up a window EVERY TIME you select text (preventing you from being able to copy to your clipboard). This window doesn't even tell what add-on its from (Causing me to uninstall several add-ons before discovering this one as the culprit). It also inserts a new search engine into your list, and will re-insert it every time you remove it.

On top of everything else, it hides itself by changing it's name. It's actually called qtl in your add-on list.

This add-on was the most frustrating add-on I've ever experienced. It should be on Spybot's
removal list as malware. It's AWFUL!!!

BUT – one suggestion is… YAH RIGHT!

Hope this helps, from their website,
How do I uninstall Babylon?
1. Right-click on the Babylon icon, at the bottom of your screen next to the computer's clock, select "Exit", and confirms your decision with a "Yes".
2. Go to "My Computer - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs", select 'Babylon' by clicking on it, and choose 'remove'.
3. Delete the "Babylon" folder from the directory that contains it.

Dear Mr. Lincoln,
Reading your comments on this blog, I see that you are still using the Babylon 7 version, which has long been replaced by Babylon 8.
Nevertheless, even Babylon 7 should not have given you any of the issues you mentioned.
Please allow me to assist you in solving solve the problems you indicated.
1. Sound
I really don’t know what music/sound your computer played, as I can’t even begin to think that Babylon has any type of sound. Please correct me if I am wrong. The only “sound” that I can think of is Babylon’s English “text to speech” feature, which produces human speech sounds according to written text, when you click on the speaker icon next to the requested term/headword.

Perhaps info the “sound” you mentioned results from an error message generated by your operating system.

2. Toolbar
During Babylon’s installation process, the software requests your permission to install the toolbar, which cannot be added to your browser without your approval.
In this toolbar you can translate terms FREE OF CHARGE, even if you do not purchase the Babylon software. Thus, here I see nothing but an advantage.
However, if this truly annoys you, you can easily uninstall it, at any time, doing the following:

1. IE Browser – the toolbar appears under the name “my Babylon toolbar” (add\ remove programs from control panel).
2. Firefox Browser – you can find the toolbar under add-ons in your browser.
3. Uninstall
Babylon does not charge users for uninstalling the software. If you’ll look closely at the uninstall pop-up message, when you try to uninstall , you will find an “Uninstall” link at the bottom left of the message (under the “Get it Now” green button). If you click on this link, it will completely remove the software from your computer.
I hope I have been of some help in solving the “issues” you encountered.
Awaiting for your response,
C. Jefferson

Thanks C Jefferson...
The removal suggestion and guide that you have given did the trick. The Tool Bar is now free of Babylon 7 and I have more space.

The music was like a "continual loop" that is played at the beginning of a game. That has now stopped as well. I cannot give you more information than that.
I did not intend to accpet the Babylon program... it was a pop up that came when I was downloading another program - a PDF assembling program.

Thanks again for responding. I will leave this comment here as well. As it seems that others are experiencing the same problem!
