Today’s Blog Post

My Dilemma with Girls Guides, Girl Scouts, Charles Colson and Planned Parenthood
I have been known to jump on to causes that come along, especially when I see the validity of the argument presented. I also listen to certain speakers and presenters that have established their credibility.

In an email directed to my attention I caught a sniff of something that has further caught my eye. And that has happened for a number of reasons. First I am concerned by the accusations being offered and Second because I do not know if they are true or not.

Accusations and Lack of truth have killed more good folk along the way – and many times it could have been avoided if more questions were asked.

Having said that I realize that, there is always the advancement of evil intention… that may not be evil in the eyes of the original presenter. Yet it is evil when whatever is presented is diametrically opposed to my core beliefs.

But then my core beliefs could be challenged at times – and sometimes in small ways be found lacking. That statement to the thinker/readers of this Blog is open to attack.

Now the email and the content that came my way was an article published by Charles Colson, respected lawyer, former government employee working under and for a President, charged with a crime, found guilty, sentenced to Prison for his crime, found Jesus in Prison, released from Prison without a job, became a writer of Christian material and an intelligent commentator in the larger community – who has authored some good books.

Wow that paragraph was a mouthful if you read out loud.

Now here is the issue, Planned Parenthood has infiltrated certain elements and levels of Girl Scouts. The inference is possibly there that Girl Guides are also affected by this – but I can see no linkage.

In Colson’s article (which is posted in full below) he states..
Quote…
“According to the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, the Girl Scouts allowed Planned Parenthood "to distribute brochures containing sexually explicit material to the young girls."

The booklet is titled "Healthy, Happy, and Hot." Much of the content is so pornographic, I wouldn't dare talk about it over the air or post it online. But you need to know that the sex guide advocates every imaginable kind of sex. As the guide blithely puts it, "There is no right or wrong way to have sex. Just have fun, explore and be yourself!"
End Quote…

Whoa! Now you can see why someone would send this my way.

Further in the article he states…
Quote…
“The Girls Scouts are claiming that they did not offer the booklet, despite the fact that it was seen on the table in their room by witnesses including Sharon Slater, president of Family Watch International.”
End Quote…

While I am at first shocked by what I read in Mr. Colson’s article, it doesn’t really bother me after thinking about it. It may get the Christian Conservative, Right Leaning, American Voter going a little nuts – but for me as a 35 year Veteran Pastor I am not phased by it at all.

You need to read closely – it was one large setting where a table was presenting booklets to a passing audience. Some watchdog type people were sniffing for evidence and found it… in their eyes.

Am I down playing this “report”? No – but I am not swallowing everything I read from even the best writers – even Colson that I respect.

I want to make a statement here that may shock you totally. A pamphlet will not convince a Girl Scout to have sex – any kind of sex or all kinds of sex. A printed pamphlet lying on a conference table will not do it. It is not to be feared as some are suggesting here.

Planned Parenthood is portrayed as the Devil’s right hand tool used to destroy and deter all things Godly… by the ultra conservative Christian groups. And without thinking most kind of middle of the road Christians gasp with horror at even the utterance of the words Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood has reason for what they do. They believe totally in what they do and then do something about it. They are active and involved.

Some Christians that do the knee jerk reaction to what is being offered by the “ultras” but then do nothing about it – except gasp paralyzing fearful. Their “nothingness” is swallowed by someone doing something!

To all of that, even though I am not a renowned writer, presenter or author I stand up and declare loudly – “BULL!”

Last Saturday…
On Saturday my wife and I headed over to see the 2010 Cottage Show at the Evinrude Centre a few blocks from where we live. It had been a long day and a walk through the Dream Show might be fun. We walked around and then found a favourite something… and sat down. It was a swing set with a canopy top… only $500! Nope we never bought it – but sat in it and swung back and forth.

As we talked and giggled about our dream of having one of these on our cottage deck over looking a very still lake, the reverie was broken by a beautiful young lady of about 10 years old. Her skin was radiant. Her hair was so fresh looking. Not one bit of makeup on. She didn’t need it as the young, radiant, vibrant girl that she was. She smiled with her best grin, held out her hand that held her Girl Guide tray of cookies and asked, “Would you like to try one? These are the Girl Guide cookies that we are selling at our booth.”

I grinned at her and took one of my favourites – the white ones.

She turned and began to walk away… then she flashed her smile again and said, “Come on over and buy some…”

I told her that she was the best salesperson at the Cottage Show.

There she was, the perfect example of girlhood, a Girl Guide of the next generation of Girl Guides. If I did a very fast estimate of this young lady, she may well be the next E.R. Doctor I will need when Heart Attacks and all things frightening happen to me in years to come. This young lady sparkles with life.

She is so much like my granddaughter Emma that it was almost shocking. Beautiful, radiant, sparkling, emotional, inspiring, dazzling… and on and on and on I could go…

At the Girl Guide Table there were young moms that dedicated to what their Girls were doing. It was a wonderful example of loving kids, giving up your quality family life to let the community know about your Group. I was impressed.

“But what about the Planned Parenthood? Aren’t you afraid Murray that they will infiltrate the works and mess these kids up?” you ask.

“Nope not at all.” is my answer. They have leaders that are living examples of coping with life challenges. They likely have dads that are in their lives setting examples of what real men are all about. These dads are telling their girls how beautiful they really are, not putting them down but rather lifting them up. These girls don’t need a pamphlet on sexual things.

“Wow! You really thinks so?” you return.

“Yep. In the old days we used to have church do this kind of thing, now Girl Guides and other groups do it for the family” I respond.

The Old Days….
It was really that way in the Old Days, people that were older offered their care in Sunday School and Youth Groups for other people’s kids. They became the supporting mentors for the family. Today in church it is very hard to find people that will give up their time, or perhaps they are too sick and too tired to teach a class anymore.

I have been teaching a Youth Class and it is almost done. Parents have found many things to do each week… getting to church is irregular. Now to confuse it all I am getting called out to do another weekend ministry coming up soon. There is a struggle within to know what to do… if I stop doing what I have been doing – who will there be to take it up again? Right now I can see no one.

My daughter is teaching another class. She likes doing what she is doing but feels if she quits there will be no one to take it again… actually not true because one grandmother of the kids feels that she needs to keep it up. But if she is away – it is not going to happen.

That is a defeated attitude Lincoln! Get with the program! God is bigger than all that! Isn’t He?

Yep but people are people… they are quite busy, very weak, distracted and after all it’s not really their problem or kids.

So when Planned Parenthood enters the scene – they don’t like it much.

Do you see my dilemma?

Unhealthy and Unhappy
By CHARLES COLSON
Next time you buy a box of Girl Scout cookies to feed your sweet tooth,
think about what the Girl Scouts leadership is feeding to young girls.

I almost fell out of my chair when I read the news. The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts hosted a panel in New York, part of the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. According to the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, the Girl Scouts allowed Planned Parenthood "to distribute brochures containing sexually explicit material to the young girls."

It also tells girls that "some people have sex when they have been drinking alcohol or using drugs. This is your choice." Clearly, nothing is off limits - even for children below the age of consent.

The Girls Scouts are claiming that they did not offer the booklet, despite the fact that it was seen on the table in their room by witnesses including Sharon Slater, president of Family Watch International.

But why would Girl Scout leaders even bother denying it? They've had a long association with Planned Parenthood. As one of our Centurion graduates, Regis Nicoll, notes in an article on the BreakPoint website, Planned Parenthood is a welcome guest in 20 percent of the Girl Scout councils nationwide, conducting "educational" events.

During these events, Nicoll writes, attendees are given a book entitled "It's Perfectly Normal." The book enthusiastically promotes homosexual behavior and abortion, and includes graphic and, for me at least, vulgar descriptions of the human anatomy.

Planned Parenthood believes that sexual activity of any kind is a human right - at any age. To them, it's never too early to start exposing children to their sexual philosophy. By contrast, of course, Christianity teaches that sex is a sacred act that ought to be reserved exclusively for a husband and wife. And we believe childhood should be a time of innocence - a time to be protected from adult subjects.

Philosophy may only be part of the reason why Planned Parenthood is so eager to expose Girl Scouts to their trashy booklets. Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women of America, says it does so "with the intent of increasing their revenue."

Wright says that Planned Parenthood, the nation's number one abortion provider, works with girls' organizations "in order to profit from encouraging kids to be sexually active." It's obvious - the more sexually active, the more abortions. What a way to destroy young women.

Parents who question the Girl Scouts' wisdom in allowing Planned Parenthood access to their daughters may want to consider a Christian alternative: American Heritage Girls. This group teaches leadership, character development, and spiritual growth.

Or, if you are involved with Girl Scouts, for heaven's sake, let your
leaders know what you think about exposing young girls to sexually explicit materials and the destructive worldview they represent.

Sadly these days, we need to be on the lookout for radical, destructive
worldviews everywhere - even behind the boxes of Girl Scout cookies.
