HOW BIG IS WAL-MART?
The email that my friend sent me has the content that I have copied into this post – at the end. The title of email is the title of the Blog.

With the research that I have done over the years I have been blown away with the hatred that has been generated against the Wal-Mart stores. It simply is amazing that so many people hate the company that so many shop at.

No doubt about it – Wal-Mart is big. No doubt about it – their prices are somewhat cheaper than other stores. With their buying power – why wouldn’t it be?

The email that I received suggests that I should be scared with what I am about to read. That is funny – actually. The fact that Wal-Mart supposedly takes out insurance policies of employees without the employee knowing about it, then the big bad Wal-Mart collects the money to use for other horrible ways like paying out bonuses to already high paid management… is supposed to scare me… Too funny!

DUH!

People take insurance policies out of other people all the time and have the policy paid out to someone other than the dead person… usually the dude’s wife. This to me is more scary than Wal-Mart.

I know a family that pays for a life insurance policy on their father. It is done this way so that when the Old Buzzard drops off they will get a little cash from it. The Old Buzzard never made much money in his life time – and with this method of each kid chipping in some cash – they will get some kind of inheritance.

There are other businesses that do this as well. I know the stories but will protect their privacy by not telling the truth. If I did – people may not ‘shop” there.

Locally…
I came across a local weird policy – and it is NOT WAL-MART. It happens in Lakefield, Ontario.

Some Lakefield-ites are weird. Making that statement will get me burned at the Lakefield Stake I am sure. Now telling the truth about their practices in business will scare you I am sure!!!

Here it is – are you ready?

Lakefield shop owners and businesses WILL NOT BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM BUSINESSES OUTSIDE OF LAKEFIELD!

A friend of mine that has a Chocolate/Truffle making company approached a Lakefield shop and tried to make a deal to sell her truffles in the Lakefield shop. NO WAY HOSEA! THEY ONLY BUY FROM LAKEFIELD SHOPS!!!!

But – Lakefield shops buy from China – and buy lots of stuff made in China.

Talk about protectionism at the Max. Now that is scary to say the least… specially if you are living in Peterborough and have a “locally made” item that you try to market.

I won’t be allowed to sell Wood Carvings in Lakefield – but with that attitude – why would I want to? BUT Wood Chuck Charlie sells there and he doesn’t live there!!!! His shop is in Bridgenorth!

My Point…
If your work is good, your services the best, and you try harder… others will be threatened and make all kinds of accusations.

Thank you to the “Passer On” of all things email-wise. I don’t really think that you hate Wal-Mart. I am pretty sure that you buy things in that store. And whether they insure someone that knows about it or not – what difference does that make to you? Not sure…

Lakefield’s ‘protectionism’ is way more frightening than Wal-Mart.

HOW BIG IS WAL-MART?
This should boggle your mind!! And scare you as well!

1. At Wal-Mart, Americans spend $36,000,000 every hour of every day.

2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

3... Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot + Kroger + Target + Sears + Costco + K-Mart combined.

5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million people and is the largest private employer. And most can't speak English.

6. Wal-Mart is the largest company in the history of the World.

7. Wal-Mart now sells more food than Kroger & Safeway combined, keeping in mind they did this in only 15 years.

8. During this same period, 31 Supermarket chains sought bankruptcy. (are we surprised)

9. Wal-Mart now sells more food than any other store in the world.

10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores in the USA of which 1,906 are Super Centers; this is 1,000 more than it had 5 years ago.

11. This year, 7.2 billion different purchasing experiences will occur at a Wal-Mart store.. (Earth's population is approximately 6.5 billion.)

12. 90% of all Americans live within 15 miles of a Wal-Mart.

13. The value of product for Wal-Mart passing through the port of San Diego each year is a larger sum than 93% of ALL countries Gross National Product (GNP) ...and that is only ONE port ...one way that Wal-Mart gets it's stuff..

14. Of the 1.6 million employees, only 1.2% make a living above the poverty level.. (Interesting statistics eh, must be because they pay their employees so well)

15. Wal-Mart's head office is located and centralized in Bentonville. Due to this fact, there are more millionaires per square mile there than any place on Earth. (Wonder what merchandise they have it their friendly Bentonville Wal-Mart?)

16. The official U.S. Government position is that Wal-Mart's prices are no lower than anyone else's when compared to a typical families weekly purchases. That's the view of the statisticians at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) responsible for calculating the consumer price index (CPI).

17. 92% of everything Wal-Mart sells, comes from China. Another 4% comes from Chinese owned companies in the U.S. or in 3rd world countries. (Yes China is in charge here alright)

SCARRY 18. Wal-Mart and MOST large companies, take out life insurance on it's employees, without their knowing. If an employee dies, ALL the insurance moneys go to the companies. i.e. An employee making $18,000 per year, dies, and the company might make as much as $1 million. Most often these moneys, coming from what is commonly referred to as "Dead Peasant Life Insurance Policies", is paid out to executives as bonuses. (A common practice, unknown by the common man)

19. Wal-Mart now averages a "profit" (not sales) of $36 billion per year.

20. Let Wal Mart bail out Wall Street. If not, consider shopping someplace else.
